Day Stops 44 in Defeat
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The #10 Princeton women's
hockey team scored twice within the first seven minutes and never
looked back en route to a 3-1 win over Union on Saturday, Jan. 10
at Messa Rink. The Dutchwomen are now 2-17-3 overall and 0-9-1 in
ECAC Hockey play, while the Tigers improve to 11-8-1 overall and
8-5-0 in the league.
Union's lone goal came on the power play at 11:23 of the second
period. Freshman Lauren Hoffman banged home a rebound off a shot by
Lauren Cromartie to the left of Princeton goalie Kristen Young. It
was Hoffman's fourth goal of the season. It was Union's eighth
power-play goal of the season, and its first since the Nov. 1 game
against Brown.
Princeton built a 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals 2:11 apart. At
4:43 of the first period, Danielle DiCesare shot on net from the
left point. Her shot was tipped by Melanie Wallace, who put the
Tigers on the board with the power-play goal. Then, Annie Greenwood
fired through traffic to beat Union netminder Lundy Day on the left
side. Princeton capped the afternoon's scoring when Charissa
Stadnyk recovered her own rebound, which bounced off Day's left
pad, and scored to put the Tigers up 3-1.
Princeton outshot Union, 47-7 in the game, including 22-3 in
the second period, as Day made 21 stops in the second.
Union is on the road for ECAC Hockey games against Cornell and
Colgate next weekend, Jan. 16-17.
