Tigers Run Win Streak to Four
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The 10th-ranked Princeton
women's hockey team scored two goals in the first seven minutes and
never looked back in a 3-1 win at Union on Saturday afternoon at
Messa Rink. Junior Melanie
Wallace opened the scoring for Princeton and senior Annie
Greenwood provided the game winner.
Princeton controlled play throughout on is way to its
fourth-straight win. Princeton's recent run has moved the Tigers to
third in the ECAC standings as the Tigers enter the exam break.
Princeton outshot Union 47-7 and went ahead early in the game when
Wallace connected on her fifth of the year at 4:43 of the first
period on the power play. Freshman Danielle
DiCesare and junior Maddie
Endicott provided assists on the goal as Wallace set a career high
for points in a season with 18. The Tigers made it 2-0 2:11 later
as Greenwood netted an unassisted tally, her fourth goal of the
season.
Union cut Princeton's lead to a goal at 11:23 of the second period
when Lauren Hoffman scored on the power play, but Union would get
no closer and freshman Charissa
Stadnyk helped Princeton reassume the two-goal lead with three
minutes left in the second. Her fourth of the year was assisted by
freshmen Julie
Johnson and Heather
Landry.
Senior Kristen
Young made six saves for the win, while Lundy Day stopped 44 in the
loss.
The Tigers improved to 11-8-1 overall and 8-5-0 in the ECAC. The
Tigers now head into the exam break and return to action on Jan. 27
at Quinnipiac.
