Big Green Takes Down Brown for Third-Straight Win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) tallied her first career hat trick, while senior goaltender Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) earned her 50th career win as the eighth-ranked Big Green women's hockey team defeated Brown, 9-1, for their third-consecutive win.

Dartmouth (11-5-2, 9-3-2 ECAC Hockey, 5-2-0 Ivy) poured it on in the third period with five scores, including four on the power play. Trunzo led the way with two of the power play goals and finished the night with four points after adding an assist in the first period. The Big Green had seven different goal scorers, while seniors Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) and Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) posted three assists apiece. Clemis had an easy night between the pipes with 15 stops to earn her ninth win of the year.

For Brown (3-12-1, 2-7-0 ECAC Hockey, 0-4-0 Ivy), Sasha Van Muyen netted the lone goal and goaltender Nicole Stock made 43 saves in the loss.

Trunzo got things rolling for the Big Green with her eighth goal of the season, coming 51 seconds into the contest to give Dartmouth an early 1-0 lead with the assist going to freshman Moira Scanlon (Chicago, Ill.) for her second in as many games.

From there the power play for the Big Green took over in the opening period. Freshman Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) started where she left off last night with her third goal in the last two games with a man-advantage tally coming with 9:19 left in the opening frame. Sophomore Katie Horner (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) earned the assist for her first helper of the year.

Senior co-captain Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.) kept the scoring going for Dartmouth with her fifth of the year and first on the power play with 4:05 left on the clock in the first frame. Trunzo factored in the goal to push her point total up to 20 with a two-point opening period.

In the second period, the Bears got back into the game with a power play tally coming just 39 seconds into the frame. Van Muyen netted the extra-man goal for her fourth of the season and second on the power play. Dartmouth fired back at the 10:20 mark on sophomore Alyssa Boehm's (Watertown, Conn.) second goal in the last three games with the assists going to senior Bronson and sophomore Larissa Roche (Thorhild, Alta.). For Roche, it was her first point of the season, while Bronson collected her fourth assist of the year.

The Big Green added to its lead 2:20 into the final frame as freshman Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) posted her second of the weekend and third of the year with junior Sarah Toupal (White Bear Lake, Minn.) adding the assist.

Dartmouth then exploded for four more scores, all on the power play. Trunzo led the charge with a pair of scores, while senior co-captain Sarah Newnam (Clifton, Va.) and junior Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) potted the other two to give the Big Green a 9-1 win over the Bears.

Overall, Dartmouth scored five goals in 10 power play chances and Brown tallied just one in five opportunities. The Big Green also held a 52-16 advantage in shots.

Dartmouth is back in action on Tuesday night at Thompson Arena as Hockey East's Providence comes to Hanover for a 7 p.m. midweek face-off.
