Union Picks Up First League Point
SCHENECTADY, NY -- Emilie Arseneault scored a
first period goal and Lundy Day made 27 stops as the Union College
women's ice hockey team tied Quinnipiac University, 1-1 in ECAC
Hockey action Friday night at Messa Rink. The Dutchwomen now stand
2-16-3 overall and 0-8-1 in the league, while the Bobcats are now
3-18-3 and 2-7-3 in ECAC Hockey.
This was Union's first point in ECAC Hockey league play since a 4-4
home tie vs. RPI on January 5, 2008. Quinnipiac tied the game
at 13:40 of the third period. Trudy Reynds notched the tying
tally on a pass from Elyse Cole. Reyns took a shot at the left
point on a Bobcat power play that got through a screen for her
third goal of the season.
Union took the lead at 12:57 of the first period. A Quinnipiac
turnover inside the Bobcat blueline created a Union two-on-one, and
Adelle Calahan fed Arseneault, who fired home her third goal of her
freshman season.
The Bobcats went on the power play at 4:01 of the second period,
atnd took five shots during the advantage, yet only one got on net
and Lundy made the stop. With just over seven minutes remaining in
the stanza, Areseneault was in alone but was stopped by goaltender
Tia Wishart, who came in to start the period in relief of starter
Nanna Holm Glaas. In the third, Day continued to keep the
Bobcats at bay, including a stop during a flurry on a Quinnipiac
power play in the first two minutes of the period.
Quinnipiac outshot Union, 28-11 in the game, including 14-3 in the
third period, as Day made 13 stops in the third.
Union hosts Princeton for a 4 p.m. ECAC Hockey game Saturday at
Messa Rink.
