Boxscore

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Sarah Vaillancourt scored two goals and collected two assists, and Katharine Chute picked up two assists to propel the Harvard women's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Brown Saturday afternoon at Bright Hockey Center.  Christina Kessler had a 27-save effort in net, while Jenny Brine and Sarah Wilson also lit the lamp for the Crimson.

With Harvard's weekend sweep, Katey Stone, the Landry Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Ice Hockey, moved into second place on the all-time Division I women's coaches win list and first among active coaches with 313 victories.  The 1999 America Hockey Coaches Association Women's Coach of the Year, Stone is in her 15th season behind the Harvard bench and has led the Crimson to the 1999 AWCHA national championship as well as five Frozen Four appearances and seven NCAA tournament berths.

Harvard has won five ECAC Hockey regular-season titles, five ECAC Hockey tournament championships, four Ivy League titles and nine Beanpots under Stone's guidance.  A three-time ECAC Hockey and two-time New England Hockey Coach of the Year, Stone has coached six of the 11 winners of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as the nation's top women's player, nine players who have played in the Olympics, eight Ivy League Players of the Year and seven ECAC Hockey Players of the Year.  Fittingly, Stone set this milestone the weekend Harvard celebrated 30 years for Crimson women's hockey and honored the 1999 AWCHA championship team.

Brine got the Crimson (13-7-3, 12-4-2, 7-2-0 Ivy League) on the scoreboard with an even-strength tally at 14:43, as she chipped in a shot from the left side.  Chute played the puck from the neutral zone and into Brown territory before dishing it off to Vaillancourt.  Vaillancourt skated down the middle with Brine on her left for a 2-on-1 opportunity for the Crimson.  As Brine neared the net, Vaillancourt made a clean pass to Brine's stick as she finished the play to give the Crimson a 1-0 lead.

Exactly five minutes later, Chute picked up her second assist of the afternoon, as she slid the puck from the left corner directly in front to Vaillancourt, who poked it over Brown's Nicole Stock and into the cage.  Through one period of play, Harvard held an 11-8 lead in shots, and each team was 0-for-2 on the power play.

In the second, the Crimson earned its third power play of the game after Brown (5-18-1, 4-13-0, 1-7-0) was called for checking at 6:49.  Less than 30 seconds later, Vaillancourt controlled the puck at the bottom of the left faceoff circle in the Brown zone and rifled a quick pass through the crease.  Wilson got her stick on the puck and jammed it home to put Harvard up 3-0.

At 11:23, Vaillancourt lit the lamp for the second time in the game, as she took possession near the Crimson blue line and eluded four Brown skaters before reaching Stock.  The Harvard co-captain jumped over a Brown defender before shooting the puck past Stock's glove to make it a 4-0 contest.

Kessler made 13 saves in the third period to clinch her third shutout of the year and the second this week.   The Crimson mustered 45 shots for the game, while Brown put 27 pucks on net.  Harvard, which extended its win streak to seven games, was a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill and won 28 of 50 faceoffs against the Bears.

Up next, Harvard will skate against Boston College in the final of the 31st Women's Beanpot Tuesday.. The puck is slated to drop at Northeastern's Matthews Arena at 8 p.m.
