Boxscore

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Three different skaters tallied goals for the Harvard women's hockey team as the Crimson earned a 3-1 victory over Quinnipiac in an ECAC Hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at Bright Hockey Center.

Kirsten Kester, Kati Vaughn and Randi Griffin all lit the lamp for Harvard (6-6-3, 6-3-2 ECAC Hockey), while goaltender Brittany Martin stopped 25 shots in net.  The Crimson controlled much of the play throughout the contest, outshooting the Bobcats 46-26 overall.

Kester got the Crimson on the scoreboard with her first tally of the season at 12:41 of the first period.  Liza Ryabkina skated around the left circle before dumping a pass in front.  The puck found Kester's stick and the senior stuffed it home from the right side of the crease to give the Crimson a 1-0 advantage.  Harvard dominated the rest of play in the first and held a 19-4 lead in shots through one.

Midway through the second, Harvard extended its lead to 2-0 on a slap shot by Vaughn from the left point.  Sarah Vaillancourt took the puck up the ice and into the Quinnipiac zone before pushing a pass to the right side towards Sarah Wilson.  Wilson spun around and attempted a backhand, but the puck was turned aside by Tia Wishart, the Bobcats' goaltender.  The Crimson recovered the puck in the corner and Vaillancourt passed to Vaughn for the goal at 10:13.

In the third, the Crimson tacked on an insurance goal on a one-timer from the slot by Griffin at 4:00.  Amy Uber played the puck in the left circle and directed a perfect pass in front to Griffin, who lifted the puck over Wishart and into the net.  Anna McDonald earned a secondary assist on the play as Harvard extended its lead to 3-0.

With 2:12 remaining in the game, the Bobcats finally broke through the Crimson defense, as Janine Duffy scored on a power play from a chance in front of Martin.  Trudy Reyns and Elyse Cole were credited with assists on the goal.  The Bobcats outshot the Crimson, 16-14, in the final frame and was 0-for-2 on their two power-play chances in the period.

For the game, Harvard killed 4-of-5 Quinnipiac opportunities with an extra attacker, while finishing 0-for-2 on its own power plays.  Wishart stopped 40 Crimson shots, including 18 in the first period.

Harvard will conclude its three-game homestand Tuesday, Jan. 6 with contest against ECAC Hockey and Ivy League rival Dartmouth.  The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
