Big Green Powers Past Vermont to Snap Three-Game Skid

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Freshman Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) tallied a career-high two goals, while classmate Moira Scanlon (Chicago, Ill.) added a score as the third-ranked Big Green defeated their neighbors to the north, 4-1, to snap a three-game losing streak.

For Dartmouth (8-4-1), senior Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) got in on the action with her third goal of the season to go along with the rookie's scores and she also posted an assist for a two-point night. The Big Green also had three different skaters earn assists in the win. Senior Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) got the start in net and made 18 saves to earn her sixth win of the season.

For Vermont (4-13-1), Hannah Westbrook tallied the lone goal in the loss, while netminder Kristen Olychuck made 29 stops, but it wasn't enough to give the Catamounts a victory.

Dartmouth didn't waste any time taking a 1-0 lead as Fischer tallied her first of the night and third of the season just 41 seconds into the opening period. Bronson was credited with the assist. The Big Green extended its lead to 2-0 with 4:08 remaining in the opening frame as Scanlon netted her second of the season coming unassisted.

The opening frame was played even between the two schools as both teams were able to fire nine shots on goal.

Vermont cut the deficit down to one with its first of the night coming with 2:49 left in the second period. Westbrook got the Catamounts on the board with Kayleigh Palmer and Erin Barley-Mahoney earning the assists.

Bronson gave the Big Green some breathing room 3:51 into the final period to make it 3-1 in favor of Dartmouth. Sophomore Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) earned her ninth helper of the year on the play. The Big Green pushed the lead to 4-1 on Fischer's second of the nigh and fourth of the season with just under six minutes to go in the game. Senior Katie Gray (Calgary Alta.) and junior Sarah Toupal (White Bear Lake, Minn.) dished out the assists.

The game was played evenly until the final 10 minutes as Dartmouth increased its shot total to 33, to only 19 for the Catamounts. Also each team played the game clean as only a total of eight penalties were called. The Big Green was unsuccessful on four power play chances, while Vermont went scoreless in three man advantage opportunities.

Dartmouth will be back in action on Friday night as the Big Green opens 2009 against Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. at Thompson Arena.
