Dutchwomen Complete Weekend Sweep
BRIDGEPORT, CT - Two goals by freshman forward Lauren Cromartie
paced the Union College women's ice hockey team to its second
consecutive with a 5-2 victory at Sacred Heart on Saturday.
Cromartie tallied the game-winning goal 5:25 into the third period
as Union improves to 2-13-1. Sacred Heart falls to 4-7-0.
Senior goaltender Lundy Day earned the victory by turning aside 28
shots, including 13 in the first and 11 in the second. Freshman
Kate Gallagher saw 1:14 of action and kept the Pioneers off the
board with three saves.
Also cashing in for the Dutchwomen was freshman forward Emilie
Arseneault, senior forward Suzy Pocock and freshman forward Kelly
Alyea.
Freshman defender Chelsey Heinhuis registered a career-high three
assists, while sophomore defender Perri Maduri, sophomore forward
Marissa Gentile, sophomore forward Elsa Perushek and sophomore
forward Suzanne Ostrow all picked up an assist.
Arseneault put Union on the board early with a goal 7:17 into the
game on a play setup by Heinhuis.
Sacred Heart's Lauren Fontaine pulled the score even at 11:27, but
Pocock scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist to
Heinhuis at 16:22 and sent the score into the first break at
2-1.
The Pioneers answered 2:10 into the second, but Cromartie responded
a period later with two goals, including the game winner. Her first
marker came at 5:25 from Gentile and her second came at 8:07 from
Heinhuis.
Alyea put the finishing touches on the victory with 1:14 remaining
with assist going to Maduri and Ostrow.
Union, who unloaded a season-best 39 shots on goal while allowing
33, returns to the ice on Friday, Dec. 5 with a 4 p.m. contest at
Princeton.
