Dutchwomen Earn First Win

Boxscore

Bridgeport, CT - An overtime goal by freshman forward Lauren Hoffman led the Dutchwomen ice hockey team to a 3-2 victory at Sacred Heart on Friday. Hoffman scored a career-high two goals as Union earned its first victory of the season (1-13-1).

Freshman forward Lauren Cromartie scored Unions other goal, the second of the game. Like Hoffman, Cromartie registered her first career goal during the game.

Senior goaltender Lundy Day posted 41 saves for her third victory since joining the Dutchwomen prior to the 2007-08 season. She made 11 saves in the first, 14 in the second and 16 in the third.

Hoffman registered Union's first goal only 3:36 into the contest on a pass from freshman forward Adelle Calahan. The assist was Calahan's fifth of the season and she is now tied for the team lead with six points.

Playing with the momentum, Cromartie put Union up 2-0. The goal was unassisted and came at 11:11.

The Pioneers fought their way back with a power play goal with only 10 ticks remaining in the second. The goal came off the stick of Nicole Palazzo, setup by Taryn LaPierre.

Kate Dunlop evened the score at 2-2 only 1:07 into the third period.

The victory was Union's first since defeating Sacred Heart 3-2 on Jan. 20, 2008 at Messa Rink. The Dutchwomen now own a 13-6-1 record against the Pioneers all-time.

The two teams meet again on Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest.
