Bulldogs' Rally Not Enough to Overcome UNH
DURHAM, N.H. -- A late rally by Yale was not enough Saturday
night, as the Bulldogs fell to No. 4 New Hampshire 5-3 at the
Whittemore Center. Senior forward Crysti Howser had a pair of goals
and an assist, but a 5-0 Wildcat lead in the third period proved to
be too much to overcome.
New Hampshire (5-1-2, 1-1-1 Hockey East) had a 9-6 shot advantage
in the first period and also scored the only goal of the frame, as
Jenn Wakefield tallied her eighth goal of the year. Shots were even
in the second period, but the Wildcats extended their lead on a
goal by Kelly Paton.
Paton’s goal 20 seconds into the third period set the tone,
as the Wildcats would pour on 17 shots in the frame. Two goals in a
span of 21 seconds six minutes in, from Micaela Long and Shannon
Sisk, wound up providing the decisive edge. Freshman forward Aleca
Hughes started Yale’s rally with a goal at 13:11, but that
combined with Howser’s two tallies was not enough to overcome
the deficit.
Senior defenseman Helen Resor had a pair of assists, while junior
defenseman Alyssa Clarke, sophomore forward Bray Ketchum, Howser
and Hughes had one each. Sophomore goalie Jackee Snikeris made 29
saves in 57:05 before giving way to freshman Genny Ladige, who
stopped both shots she saw.
Yale (0-1-0, 0-0-0 ECAC Hockey) hosts McGill in an exhibition
Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Ingalls Rink.
