Union Ends Western Trip in Defeat
GRAND FORK, ND -– The Dutchwomen’s ice hockey trip
west ended with a 4-1 loss at North Dakota on Saturday. Junior
defender Jackie Koetteritz (Breckenridge, CO) scored her team-high
tying third goal of the season as Union goes to 0-7-1. The Fighting
Sioux improves to 5-1-0.
Koetteritz, who leads the team with six points, registered
Union’s power play marker at 17:14 of the second period on a
play set up by freshman forward Adelle Calahan (Skokie, IL) and
senior forward Suzy Pocock (Sterling Heights, MI).
The assist, which helped knot the score at 1-1, was the third of
Calahan’s career and the second of Pocock’s season.
Pocock is second on the team with five points and is now tied for
fifth on the school’s all-time points list with 36.
The Fighting Sioux opening the scoring at 14:53 of the second with
a tally by Alyssa Wiebe setup by Marie-Michelle Poirer.
After the two teams returned for the third period, North Dakota
grabbed the lead for good with a goal by Poirer at 1:23.
Sara Dagenais registered the Fighting Sioux’s final two
goals at 6:52 and 17:53. Melissa Jaques helped out with both goals.
Kelsey Fletcher was credited with an assist on the first and Margot
Miller picked one up on the second.
Senior goaltender Lundy Day (Calgary, AB) made 38 stops, including
18 in the first period. Her counterpart, Stephanie Ney, turned
aside 15 Union tries.
Union returns home for a Friday, Oct. 31 contest against ECACH
opponent Yale at 3 p.m. Conference play continues with a 3 p.m.
match-up against Brown on Saturday, Nov. 1.
