Quinnipiac Dumped by Northeastern
BOSTON -– The Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team was
defeated by Northeastern, 3-1, at Matthews Arena on Saturday
afternoon. With the loss the Bobcats fall to 1-6 while the Huskies
improve to 5-0-2.
The Bobcats got on the board first at the 7:18 mark in the first
period on the power play goal as Brandice Moniz (Oakville, Ontario)
scored her second goal of the season. Moniz received the puck at
the left side of the net and poked the puck through the legs of
Northeastern goaltender Florence Schelling. Janine Duffy (Toronto,
Ontario) was credited with the assist.
Northeastern tied the score, 1-1, with a power-play goal from
Colleen Sanborn. Sanborn ripped a shot at the right point over
Quinnipiac goaltender Nanna Holm Glaas (HOMETOWN, Sweden)’
right shoulder. Lindsay Berman assisted on the goal.
The Huskies took the lead with another power-play goal at the 6:16
mark in the third period. Annie Hogan tipped a Stephanie Gavronsky
slap shot over the left shoulder of Glaas. Gavronsky and Katy
Applin were each credited with the assists.
With 15 seconds left to play in the game, the Bobcats pulled Glaas
to have an extra skater on the ice and Northeastern capitalized
with an empty net goal by Ali Bielawski.
Glaas had 20 saves in the game while Schelling had 24.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on
Boston College at the Conte Forum at 2 p.m.
