Boxscore

PRINCETON, N.J.  -- The Princeton women's hockey team pulled off a 4-2 upset over No. 4 St. Lawrence on Friday, Nov. 21 at Baker Rink. The Saints entered the game with an undefeated ECAC Hockey record and with one loss total. Four different Tigers ended the game with two-point efforts.

Two minutes into the game Princeton goaltender Kristen Young made a big leg save on a shot by Vanessa Locke and it was foreshadowing of how the game would be played out.

Three minutes later, St. Lawrence earned its first power play but the Princeton penalty-killing unit was unstoppable, breaking up any opportunity that the Saints had at putting the puck on the net.

Following a successful penalty kill, Princeton earned a power play of its own at 8:34. It took 20 seconds for the Tigers to light the lamp with sophomore Sasha Sherry earning the goal. Set up in formation, senior Katherine Dineen sent the puck across the blue line to Sherry and Sherry sent a high shot in on net, that hit the left post and rang around inside the back of the net. Freshman Paula Romanchuk also received an assist on the play.

The Saints answered back at the end of the first period with its own man-advantage goal. Alison Domenico had a shot from the top of the right face-off circle and the puck got caught in traffic out in front of the goal. The puck pinballed around and Brittaney Mashm had a chance with it before Vanessa Emond put it away at 16:05.

Princeton scored three goals in the second period, to take a 4-1 lead. Romanchuk started the scoring at 5:39 when she sent a shot in on goaltender Brittony Chartier. The puck went five-hole and slowly trickled over the goal line. Junior Melanie Wallace and freshman Danielle DiCesare were credited with setting up the goal. Wallace made it 3-1 Princeton at 7:41 with a power-play goal. She rifled a shot from the right face-off circle that deflected off a St. Lawrence defender and went into the goal. Sherry and senior Katherine Dineen grabbed assists.

Eighteen seconds into its final power play of the second period, Princeton gained a 4-1 lead when freshman Charisa Standyk scored with help from Heather Landry.

Down three goals, it looked as though St. Lawrence would have a chance to chip away at Princeton's lead when it had a 5-on-3 advantage for one minute and 50 seconds, with seven minutes to play in the second frame. The Saints could muster just two shots on goal, both turned away by Young, had a shot block and one hit the post.

St. Lawrence came out with avengence in the third period, taking 12 shots to Princeton's one. The Saints however only managed to come up with one goal. Karell Emard scored on the doorstep shoveling in an Alison Domenico pass.

Chartier was pulled from the goal for the final 56 seconds but the Saints could not get the extra-attacker marker. Chartier completed the game with 14 saves.

Princeton improves to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the league, while St. Lawrence drops to 7-2-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.
