Gaudet Notches 50th Career Goal in Win Over Quinnipiac
Hamden, CT - Senior Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) became
just the second player in Clarkson University Women's Hockey team
history to score 50 career goals as the Golden Knights downed
Quinnipiac 2-0 in an ECAC Hockey match up Friday night at the TD
Banknorth Sports Center.
The Golden Knights evened their record at 5-5-3 overall and moved
to 3-1-1 in league contests, while the Bobcats dropped to 2-12-1
overall. Clarkson plays at Princeton tomorrow afternoon.
Though Clarkson dominated play throughout, the Knights struggled to
get much going offensive in terms of goals through the first two
periods. The Green and Gold owned shot advantages of 13-2 in the
first period and 16-4 in the second before finally putting one on
the scoreboard. With just 10 seconds left in their fifth power play
chance of the night, the Knights' Genevieve Lavoie (Delson, QUE)
scored her first goal of the season with an assist going to Britney
Selina (Thornhill, ONT).
Another overwhelming effort came in the third period as Clarkson
possessed a 12-4 edge in shots (finishing the game with a 41-10
lead in the category), but again the Knights didn't score until
late in the frame. Gaudet scored her team-high ninth goal of the
season, and the 50th of her career, with only two minutes remaining
in the contest, giving the Knights a valuable insurance goal late.
Selina and sophomore Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) were each
awarded assists.
Sophomore goaltender Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) needed to post
just 10 saves to record her third shutout in four games, while Tia
Wishart was battered with 41 shots total, making 39 saves.
