Slow Start Spells Defeat for Clarkson
BOSTON -- A strong effort over the final two periods could not
make up for a slow start for the Clarkson University Women’s
Hockey team as the Golden Knights fell to Boston University 2-1 at
Walter Brown Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights, who trailed 2-0 after the first period out shot the
Terriers 29-27 and dominated the final 40 minutes with a 26-16 shot
advantage. Boston University (3-2), however, was able to withstand
the Green and Gold’s pressure to hold on for the one-goal
victory.
The Terriers got off to a fast start with Gina Kearns’ goal
28 seconds after the opening faceoff. Kearns tallied again at 16:39
of the opening frame with a power-play marker.
Clarkson pulled to within one when freshman Juana Baribeau (Amos,
QUE) scored her second collegiate goal at 14:12 of the second
period, finishing off assists from junior Britney Selina
(Thornhill, ONT) and senior defenseman Courtney O’Connor
(Chicago, IL).
The Knights continued to pressure over the final 20 minutes,
putting 15 shots on net, but could not come up with the
equalizer.
Clarkson went 0-of-6 on the power play, while BU tallied one
man-advantage goal in seven opportunities.
Sophomore Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) posted 25 saves for the
Knights. Melissa Haber stopped 28 Clarkson shots for the
Terriers.

Hampshire on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12 noon.
