Colgate Skates Past Niagara
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Colgate University women’s hockey
team scored two goals in the second period to take a 3-1 game from
Niagara University on Friday, Oct. 17 at Starr Rink.
Senior Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) posted the eventual game winner
with a power-play tally just 3:26 into the second and assisted on
another 20 seconds later.
Senior Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.) put the Raiders on the
board first as she blew one of top shelf fashion past Niagara
goaltender Jenni Bauer 12 minutes into the game. Junior Marissa
Dombovy (Webster, N.Y.) and sophomore Jacquie Colborne (Calgary,
Alta.) were credited with assists on the goal. Colgate out-shot the
Purple Eagles 7-4 in the period.
The second period saw more scoring as Hunt opened the period with
her third power-play goal of the year she was assisted by Dosdall
sophomore Hannah Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.). Hunt returned the
favor assisting Milan’s first of the season 20 seconds later
to widen the score 3-0. Niagara out-shot the Raiders 15-10 in the
period forcing goaltender Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) to make
some key stops.
Plenderleith carried a shut-out until 15:53 of the third when
Niagara captain Ashley Riggs fired a rebound past her left
shoulder.
Plenderleith finished the day game with 22 saves, while Bauer
turned away 17 shots for Niagara.
Colgate was 2-for-4 on the power play and was 6-for-7 on the
penalty kill.
Colgate will look for the sweep of Niagara when the two squads
battle it out on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.
