Bulldogs Blanked By Big Red
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Kayla Strong made 25 saves as Cornell shut out
Yale 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The Big Red got a pair
of power-play goals in the first period and never looked back.
Cornell (4-2-1, 2-1-1 ECAC Hockey) converted on its first power
play of the game when forward Karlee Overguard scored an unassisted
goal off a wrist shot at 9:32 with only three seconds left in the
Yale penalty.
The Big Red added to the lead with a 5-on-3 goal from forward
Rebecca Johnston, who flipped in the rebound of her own shot off
assists from forward Catherine White and defenseman Amanda
Young.
The second period was the lone period in which Yale outshot
Cornell, but Strong stopped all 10 Yale shots she faced while
freshman goalie Genny Ladiges turned aside eight shots by the Big
Red. Each team was scoreless on three power-play opportunities in
the frame.
Johnston put the game out of reach with an unassisted goal at 9:17
of the third, grabbing the rebound of her own shot and backhanding
it in. Ladiges finished with 34 saves for Yale (2-5-0, 2-4-0 ECAC
Hockey).
Yale returns to action Nov. 25 against BU at Ingall Rink at 7:00
p.m.
