DULUTH, Minn. -- Third-ranked Minnesota-Duluth scored three
goals in the first period to pick up a 3-0 win over the Princeton
women’s hockey team and gain a split of the weekend’s
series at the DECC.
A day after the Tigers knocked off UMD 4-3, the Bulldogs came out
firing and raced out to a 3-0 lead in the opening period. Elin
Holmlov opened the scoring at 4:15 and Sara O’Toole made the
score 2-0 four minutes later. Haley Irwin’s goal with 1:51
left in the period on the power play closed out all the
scoring.
UMD outshot Princeton 48-24 but could not crack senior goaltender
Kristen Young over the final period as she finished the game with
45 saves. For the weekend, Young made 82 saves. Kim Martin stopped
all 24 shots she faced for the shutout.
Senior Katherine Dineen paced the Tigers with four shots on goal
while senior Annie Greenwood and junior Stephanie Denino each had
three.
Princeton falls to 7-8-1 with the loss. The Tigers return to
action on Jan 2 at Harvard following the holiday break.
