RPI Drops Decision to Boston College
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Freshman Mary Restuccia scored two goals
and added an assist to lead the Boston College women's ice
hockey team to a 5-2 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
(RPI) at Kelley Rink.
The Eagles, the #10-ranked team in the nation, got the
scoring starting early when Kelli Stack netted her fifth goal of
the season nine minutes into the opening frame to put BC on top
1-0.
Freshman forward Andrea Green netted her first collegiate goal
with assists from classmates Meghan Fardelmann and Restuccia for a
2-1 lead. Green's fellow Minnesotan, Danielle Welch, got in
on the scoring with a power play goal at 9:10 in the second period
for a three-goal margin. Defensemen Kaitlyn Kurth and Stack
were credited with the assist.
RPI got on the board at the end of the second period when senior
Nicole McDonald (Ottawa, ON/Ottawa Raiders) netted a power
play goal to send the teams into the locker rooms with the Eagles
leading 3-1. Freshmen Sierra Vadner (Apple Valley,
MN/Minnesota Thoroughbreds) and Alisa Harrison (Vienna,
VA/Washington Pride) set up the goal, McDonald's first of the
season.
BC answered four minutes into the third frame when Restuccia,
assisted by Fardelmann and freshman blueliner Kristin Regan, scored
her first collegiate goal.
The Engineers countered with their second goal of the game halfway
through the third period - Kendra Dunlop's (Granum, AB / Warner
Hockey School) second goal of the season - to cut BC's lead to two,
4-2. The Eagles added to their lead with a
shorthaded, empty netter by Restuccia to close the door on RPI
and give them their second win of the season. Boston College
is now 2-0-2.
Eagles goaltender Molly Schaus made 21 saves on the day, while
Rensselaer's Sonja van der Bliek (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros)
stopped 20 shots. The Engineers are now 1-2-0.
