Cole Sets Record in Tie with Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team tied with Cornell, 2-2, on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y. Senior captain Elyse Cole (Belleville, Ontario) had back-to- back power play goals in the second period to give her the record for most career goals scored with 38. The record was previously held by Vicky Graham ‘08 who scored 36 goals for the Bobcats during her career (2003-08). The Bobcats' record now stands at 2-9-1 overall and 1-2-1 in ECAC Hockey while the Big Red improved to 2-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference.

The Big Red got on the board first with two goals in the second period. Amber Moore scored her first goal of the season three minutes into the second period. Amanda Young was credited with the assist. Cornell scored again at the 8:51 mark with a power-play goal from Catherine White. Stephanie Holmes and Young earned assists on the goal.

Cole's first goal came at the 10:36 mark of the second period on a five-on-three advantage. Janine Duffy (Toronto, Ontario) received a back-door pass from Trudy Reyns (Port Hope, Ontario) and took a shot on goal. Cole collected the rebound and slipped it by Cornell goaltender Kayla Strong for her fourth of the season.

Her second came just over a minute later when Duffy screened a Cornell defender and Melissa Perry (Chelsea, Mich.) got the puck to Cole on the right side of the net where she fired a hard shot into the upper corner. Perry was credited with the assist for her third of the season.

Quinnipiac goaltender Tia Wishart (Vancouver Island, British Columbia) recorded 33 saves for the Bobcats while her counterpart Kayla Strong made 27 saves.

"We worked really hard to get back from the 2-0 deficit," said Head Coach Rick Seeley, "I would have liked to get the win but I'm pleased with the effort we gave this weekend."

The Bobcats return to action next weekend when they play host to Vermont on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at the TD Banknorth Sports Center.
