Golden Knights Fall to Yale
New Haven, CT - Winning the draw with less than two seconds
remaining in the third period, the Clarkson University Women's
Hockey team put a shot into the back of the net, but unfortunately
for the Golden Knights time expired along with any chances of an
overtime win as Yale escaped with a 3-2 ECAC Hockey win Saturday
afternoon.
The Golden Knights fell to 3-5-2 overall and saw their record in
ECAC Hockey play evened at 1-1-0. Yale moved to 2-3-0 overall and
2-2-0 in conference games. Clarkson opens the home portion of the
ECAC Hockey schedule next weekend with games against Harvard and
Darmouth.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring midway through the first period
when they took control with a man-advantage opportunity. Bray
Ketcham scored her third goal of the season with assists going to
Crysti Howser and Helen Resor on the power-play goal at 10:58. Just
over a minute into the second period, Yale took a two-goal lead
with an unassisted marker by Resor.
Clarkson finally got on the scoreboard against the Bulldogs at 5:49
of the second period when freshman Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE)
scored her sixth goal of the season, cutting the lead down to 2-1.
Senior assistant captain Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE)
picked up her eighth assist of the season on Baribeau's goal. The
momentum was shortlived for the Knights, though, as Ketcham scored
another goal at 8:45.
The Knights once again had momentum going their way when junior
Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) scored her second goal of the
season at 14:09 with Clarkson skating on a two-player advantage
power play. Baribeau and sophomore Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT)
recorded points on the goal as each gained an assist.
The shots in the third period, however, were few and far between as
the two teams combined for just 10 attempts on net. Clarkson's
fifth shot of the period, a goal, was waved off after the Knights
won the faceoff with just 1.8 seconds remaining.
Eve Grandmont-Berube (Drummondville, QUE) made 23 saves in net for
the Knights while Genny Ladiges stopped 28 shots for Yale. Clarkson
held a narrow 30-26 edge in shots and each team scored once on
the power play.
