Tigers Roar Past Union
PRINCETON -- Senior Annie Greenwood and sophomore Laura
Martindale each had two goals and an assist as the Princeton
women’s hockey team blanked Union 6-0 on Friday afternoon at
Hobey Baker Rink. The win moved Princeton back to .500 at 6-6-1
overall.
Princeton jumped out to an early lead as Martindale and freshman
Danielle DiCesare put the Tigers ahead by two goals 1:14 into the
game with goals 10 seconds apart. Martindale’s goal came on a
point shot off a feed from DiCesare, while DiCesare scored on the
rebound of freshman Paula Romanchuk’s shot. The Tigers made
it a 3-0 lead at 7:51 when Greenwood netted her first goal of the
season following up on a blocked shot.
The Tigers built their lead with three more goals in the second
period. Greenwood scored on the power play at 7:33 from senior
Christine Foster and freshman Julie Johnson. Then Princeton added
the final two goals in the last two minutes of the period.
Romanchuk netted her team-leading seventh of the season at 18:54
and Martindale added her second with two seconds left in the
period. Foster also assisted on Martindale’s goal and had
three helpers for the game. Junior Melanie Wallace added two
assists.
Princeton outshot Union 48-8. Lundy Day made 42 saves in the loss
for Union, while senior Kristen Young made five saves in two
periods for the win. Freshman Rachel Weber and senior Megan Murray
also appeared for Princeton in goal in the third period.
The win was Princeton’s second in a row as the Tigers moved
to 6-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in ECAC play. Princeton continues its
weekend tomorrow afternoon against Rensselaer at 4 p.m.
