Bobcats Fall to Huskies

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team lost to St. Cloud State, 5-2, in their second meeting of the weekend at the TD Banknorth Center. The Bobcats fall to 0-4-0 this season, while the Huskies improve to 2-0-0.

Janine Duffy (Toronto, Ont.) scored her second and third goals of the season while Brandice Moniz (Oakville, Ont.) netted her first. Kallie Flor (Farmington, Minn.) tallied her third and fourth assists of the season, while Elyse Cole (Belleville, Ont.), Jordan Elkins (Wasilla, Alaska), and Trudy Reyns (Port Hope, Ont.) also recorded assists in the game.

Quinnipiac opened up the scoring with a goal from Duffy at the 18:14 mark in the first period. She received a pass from Flor and flicked the puck up over the shoulder of St. Cloud goaltender, Taylor VanDenakk. Reyns was also credited with an assist on the goal.

St. Cloud tied the game shortly after when Megan McCarthy scored a power play goal with 10 seconds remaining in the first period. McCarthy slipped the puck to the right of Quinnipiac goaltender, Nanna Holm Glaas (Stockholm, Sweden), to score unassisted.

The Huskies made it 2-1 at the 12:09 mark in the second period. Caitlin Hogan received a pass from Danielle Hirsch and was able to fire it past the glove side of Glaas.

The Bobcats tied it up at the 18:34 mark of the second period as Duffy scored her second goal of the game. Duffy tipped the puck past VanDenakk on a rebounded shot from Cole, who was credited with the assist for her second of the season.

Moniz's goal put the Bobcats in the lead for the second time in the game at the 2:27 mark of the third period. She capitalized on a hard slap shot from Elkins and tapped the puck in on the rebound.

St. Cloud scored three more times in the third to take the game from Quinnipiac. Ashlan Lambert scored an unassisted goal at the 3:44 mark. Felicia Nelson finished the scoring with the remaining two goals of the game. Her first was a power play goal on a feed from Megan McCarthy and Meaghan Pezon at the 5:09 mark and her second was also assisted by McCarthy at the 6:54 mark.

Glaas made 35 saves in the loss, and VanDenakk collected 16 saves for the win.

The Bobcats return to action on Friday, Oct. 17, when they play host to Syracuse University at 7p.m. at the TD Banknorth Center.
