HAMDEN, Conn. -– Quinnipiac fell to St. Cloud State, 7-0,
in its home opener at the TD Banknorth Sports Center. The Bobcats
fell to 0-3-0 this season with the loss, while the Huskies win
their season opener.
St. Cloud State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 23 seconds
into the game on a goal by Felicia Nelson. Nelson slipped the puck
between Quinnipiac goaltender Nanna Holm Glaas’ (Stockholm,
Sweden) pads on a quick snap-shot for the game’s first
goal.
The Huskies made it 2-0 almost five minutes into the period on a
goal from Megan McCarthy. McCarthy picked up the puck in the
neutral zone and moved around a Quinnipiac defender before sliding
the puck past Holm Glaas.
St. Cloud State made it 6-0 after two periods as four different
Huskies scored in the middle session. Holly Roberts, Ashlan
Lambert, Caitlin Hogan and Sammy Nixon each scored their first
goals of the season in the second.
Meaghan Pezon added a goal with 13:04 remaining in the third to
give the Huskies a seven-goal advantage. Pezon knocked in a rebound
standing just above the crease after Nixon’s shot was kicked
out.

St. Cloud’s Ashley Nixon stopped all 12 Quinnipiac shots. The
Bobcats’ penalty killers held the Huskies to one power-play
goal on 10 opportunities. Elyse Cole (Belleville, Ontario) led the
Bobcats with two shots on goal, including the team’s best
scoring opportunity with a wrist shot from the slot midway through
the third.
