Dutchwomen Upended By Bears
SCHENECTADY, NY - Sophomore forward Marissa
Gentile (Groton, MA) spoiled the shutout as the Dutchwomen's ice
hockey team lost to Brown Saturday afternoon, 4-1. Gentile
registered her second goal of the season with 1:43 remaining in the
game as Union goes to 0-9-1 and 0-2-0 in conference play.
Brown improves to 1-3-1 and 1-1-1 in ECAC Hockey. Freshman
goaltender Kate Gallagher (Minneapolis, MN) logged approximately 32
minutes of perfect action, making a career-high 17 saves. In her
two appearances this season, she has not allowed a goal.
Brown was led by a pair of goals by freshman defender Paige Pyett,
who scored her team's first two goals. The first came 38 ticks into
the contest and her second was 13:23 into the first. Junior forward
Sasha Van Muyen scored Brown's third goal 1:39 into the second and
freshman forward Skyelar Siwak had the fourth at 8:08 of period
two.
Union battled in the third and outshot its opponent 12-11, but lost
the overall shot count, 30-19. The Dutchmen finished with a 28-24
advantage in the face-off circle and went 1-2 on the power play.
The Bears were 1-4 with the man advantage.
Gentile got the Dutchwomen on the board with a shot from the point
that trickled through Brown goaltender Nicole Stock's legs. The
play was set up by freshman forward Lauren Cromartie (Shellbrook,
SA) and freshman forward Adelle Calahan (Skokie, IL). The assist
was Cromartie's first career point, while Calahan tallied her
third.
Stock finished with 18 saves for her first win of the season.
Union returns to the ice on Friday, Nov. 7 with a 7 p.m. contest at
Dartmouth.
