
Weekend Update: Crimson Clinch Championship

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Harvard found itself in an
unfamiliar place versus Princeton, trailing by a 1-0 margin early
in the first period, but the nation's No. 1-ranked team quickly
tied the game and then scored two third period goals to secure the
victory and the league crown. ECAC Hockey home teams once
again donned special pink jerseys in support of the league's Pink
at the Rink promotion. The jerseys are being auctioned in

No. 1 Harvard 3 at Princeton 1: Harvard
clinched its fifth ECAC regular-season championship with a come
from behind victory over Princeton Friday evening. Forward
Kate Buesser tallied the game-winner for the Crimson with five
minutes remaining in the game, and Jenny Brine and Caitlin Cahow
collected two assists to lead the Crimson to its 13th consecutive
win. Sarah Vaillancourt and Randi Griffin also tallied goals
for Harvard, while netminder Christina Kessler made a season-high
30 saves to pick up her 22nd victory.
At No. 6 St. Lawrence 5, Yale 3: The Saints
exploded for five goals in the second period, including two from
freshman forward Kirsten Roach en route to a 5-3 victory over Yale
at Appleton Arena. With the win, the Saints locked up the No.
2 seed in the conference tournament and Yale fell into a tie for 8
th place in the standings. The Bulldogs converted three of
seven power-play opportunities, including two goals by forward Bray
Ketchum.
At No. 9 Clarkson 5, Brown 0: Sophomore
forward Britney Selina recorded one goal and three assists to lift
the Golden Knights over visiting Brown. With her four-point
effort, Selina set a new school-record for points in a season with
40 points. Through 30 games, Clarkson's leading scorer has
tallied 16 goals and a team-high 24 assists. The Knights
outshot the Bears 39-13. Clarkson was one of four on the
power-play and killed off all four Brown man-advantage
opportunities.
Dartmouth 6 at Quinnipiac 0: Senior forward
Carrie Thompson netted her first career hat trick in the second
period to lead the offensive attack as the Big Green powered past
Quinnipiac. Sophomore goaltender Mariel Lacina stopped all 22
Bobcats' shots in the game for her fifth win of the season and her
third shutout of the season. Dartmouth went one of five on
the man advantage, with Thompson tallying the lone goal, while
Quinnipiac had four power play opportunities, but failed on all
four.
At Rensselaer 3, Colgate 2: The Engineers
kept its playoff hopes alive, as senior Julie Aho netted the
game-winning goal at 1:13 of the third period to lead Rensselaer
over Colgate. The Raiders outshot the Engineers 32-19 in the
contest, including a a count of 15-8 in the third period, but could
not find the back of the net. Netminder Lisa Plenderleith
finished with 16 saves in the loss for Colgate, while Renssselaer
goaltender Ashley Mayr held strong, fending off 30 total shots in
the game.
Cornell 3 at Union 2: Cornell freshman
forward Rebecca Johnston scored two goals as the Big Red went on to
defeat Union at Messa Rink. Forward Brenna Malnar had a goal
and an assist, and goaltender Lunday Day had 39 saves in net for
the Dutchwomen. Each team converted one of seven
power-play opportunities. Cornell applied offensive pressure
throughout the game outshooting the Dutchwomen 42-17.
