ALBANY, N.Y. -- Streaks remained intact Friday as Harvard
extended its perfect league mark to 10-0, Colgate extended its
unbeaten streak by beating Dartmouth in overtime, Princeton
continued its defensive dominance with yet another shutout and
Quinnipiac continued its dominance over Robert Morris.
Colgate 2, at Dartmouth 1 (ot): Colgate sophomore
Marissa Dombovy scored 2 minutes, 58 seconds into overtime as the
Raiders knocked off the No. 8 Big Green at home for the second
consecutive season. Dombovy picked up a feed from junior Elin Brown
and slipped a shot past Dartmouth goaltender Carli Clemis. The puck
slowly trickled over the goal line, sparking a Colgate bench
clearing. With the win, Colgate, which took the ice for the first
time since December 8, extended its unbeaten streak to four games
(3-0-1). Brown accounted for the Raiders' other goal; Sarah Newnam
scored for Dartmouth. Lisa Plenderleith made 27 saves for Colgate;
Clemis stopped 26.
At Harvard 4, Cornell 1: The Crimson got a goal
and two assists from junior forward Sarah Vaillancourt, who reached
a milestone by recording career point No. 150, to remain perfect
(10-0) in conference play. Vaillancourt now has 152 career points
(65-87-152), placing her seventh on the all-time Harvard list. With
the three-point effort, she extends her point-scoring streak to 13
consecutive games to start the season. Crimson sophomore goalkeeper
Christina Kessler made 19 saves; Jenny Niesluchowski stopped 30
pucks for the Big Red. The victory was Harvard's 14th in 15 games
against Cornell, dating back to the 1997-98 campaign.
At Rensselaer 1, Union 0: The Engineers edged the
Dutchwomen as junior defenseman Melissa Boik broke a scoreless tie
at 13 minutes, 12 seconds of the third period with a power-play
tally to account for the game's only scoring. Boik took a pass from
Whitney Naslund and fired a shot through traffic that rang off the
left post and past Union goaltender Lundy Day. Rensselaer outshot
the Dutchwomen 45-10; however, Day was nearly unbeatable in turning
aside 44 shots. Engineers goaltender Sonja van der Bliek recorded
the shutout.
At Quinnipiac 3, Robert Morris 1: The Bobcats
continued their mastery of the Colonials, completing a two-game
sweep and improving to 5-0 all-time in the series. The win also
extended the Bobcats' unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1).
Kallie Flor, Janine Duffy and Erica Bolognino provided the offense
for Quinnipiac; ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week Jamie Miller
stopped 24 shots in between the pipes. Elyse Cole assisted on two
of Quinnipiac's three goals. The Bobcats improved to 3-12-4
overall.
Princeton 0, at Connecticut 0 (ot): The Tigers
recorded their third consecutive shutout, skating to a scoreless
tie with the No. 9-ranked Huskies at the Freitas Ice Forum.
Princeton has held opponents scoreless for 10 consecutive periods,
covering 210 minutes, 7 seconds. The Tigers doubled-up Connecticut
in shots 36-18, but were unable to solve Huskies netminder Brittany
Wilson. Princeton junior goaltender Kristen Young made 18
saves.
At Boston College 5, St. Lawrence 2: The No. 6/5
Saints, despite firing 55 shots on goal, were not able complete a
sweep of their opening series in 2008, falling to the Eagles at
Chestnut Hill, Mass. St. Lawrence yielded five goals for only the
second time this season, as Boston College scored five consecutive
goals to earn a 5-1 lead and cruise to victory. The loss dropped
the Scarlet and Brown to 7-3-1 all-time against the Eagles. Alison
Domenico and Annie Guay accounted for the goals for St. Lawrence.
