League Play Highlights Weekend

ELEVEN OF TWELVE TEAMS IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND

ALBANY, N.Y.  -- Regular-season play will be in full force with 11 out of 12 teams in action this weekend with league action highlighting play.  Brown, Yale, and nationally-ranked Dartmouth are making their seasonal debuts on the ice.  St. Lawrence and Clarkson begin their league play by traveling to Quinnipiac and Princeton this weekend as well. 

The Big Green currently ranked No. 9/9  in the latest national polls will face a pair of Hockey East rivals this weekend hosting Vermont at 7 p.m. on Friday and traveling to Boston University for a 3 p.m. matinee game on Sunday.  Junior netminder Carli Clemis of Dartmouth, the 2007 ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year, will look to continue her dominate role between the pipes where she posted a 1.71 GAA and earned 23 victories in 30 games last season.

Brown makes its first road trip of the season taking on Union at 7 p.m. on Friday and Rensselaer at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  All-time NCAA Division I wins leader Bears head coach Digit Murphy looks to build on her career total of 301.  Trying to combat the Bears attack will be Union's junior goaltender Lundy May who holds a .854 save percentage this season. 

The Yale Bulldogs begin their season this weekend looking to surpasses the sixth place pre-season coaches' poll selection by making the trip to Troy, NY to battle the Engineers at 7 p.m. on Friday and then visiting the upstart Union College Dutchwomen at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  The Bulldogs start the season will 19 players on its roster and will be relying on a talented junior class for production and leadership.  The Engineers will look to continue their strong start to the season, where they have won four-out-of-five contests.  Rensselaer is led by a pair of high-scoring defenseman junior Melanie Guillemette and senior Kelly Barbera who have combined for 16 points in five games.

Additional intra-league contests are slated for this weekend highlighted by No. 5/6 St. Lawrence traveling to Quinnipiac on Friday and Princeton on Saturday.  The nationally-ranked Saints are led by junior forward Marianna Locke, who recorded her first career hat trick last weekend in a 8-0 win over Providence.  Princeton has posted two non-league ties this season by only allowing three goals in two games.  

In addition to their scheduled contest with St. Lawrence, Quinnipiac will welcome the Golden Knights of Clarkson at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  The Bobcats are coming off a 1-1 tie last weekend where freshman goaltender Jamie Miller stopped 29 shots in 65 minutes of action.  Clarkson will also take on the Tigers at 7 p.m. on Friday night.  Clarkson has a 4-1-1 record this season and have been led by sophomores  Genevieve Lavoie and Britney Selina who are among the overall point leaders among ECAC Hockey women with ten and eight points respectively.

Seeking their first win of the season, Colgate is on the road visiting No. 4/3 Mercyhurst for a two-game set.  The Raiders, behind junior netminder Elayna Hamashuk who has a .865 save percentage, will look to combat the high-scoring offense of Mercyhurst. 

Cornell looks to keep their undefeated season intact (2-0) when they play host to Wayne State in a two-game series at Lynah Rink.  The Big Red have been led by freshman Rebecca Johnston (2-3-5) and senior Caeleigh Beerworth (2-2-4) in their two wins.
