For the second straight year, the commissioners of the four NCAA Division I women's ice hockey conferences are sponsoring a competition for the Women's Commissioners' Cup. A total of 30 different programs will participate in the 20-game schedule that opens up with two games on Saturday, October 13:

Minnesota State (WCHA) at Connecticut (Hockey East) and North Dakota (WCHA) at Rensselaer (ECAC Hockey). Last year's inaugural competition was captured by the WCHA.

"We hope to create some added interest on some of our winter nights through this competition," said Hockey East commissioner Joe Bertagna. "The schedule also allows participation to be shared throughout Division I women's ice hockey."

Among the games on this year's schedule are eight involving schools ranked in the pre-season Top Ten Poll published by USA Hockey and USA Today. Top games include #2 Mercyhurst at #5 Minnesota-Duluth on October 21, #1 Wisconsin at #3 New Hampshire on November 18, #5 Minnesota-Duluth at #4 St. Lawrence on December 15, # 8 Boston College at #7 Minnesota on January 13, and #3 New Hampshire at #9 Dartmouth on January 17.

The opening year of Women's Commissioners' Cup play could not have been much tighter. The WCHA took home top honors with a 6-5-1 mark and 13 points.

Close behind was College Hockey America (5-5-2) and the ECAC (5-5-2), each with 12 points, followed by Hockey East (5-6-1) with 11.
