ALBANY, N.Y. - With four weekends of ECAC
Hockey remaining, the league's top three teams are refusing to
break. Harvard, St. Lawrence and Clarkson have maintained
solid play throughout the season and continue to be recognized on a
national level.
Coming off a two-week exam break No. 1/1-ranked Harvard was put to
another test of sorts facing then ranked No. 10 Dartmouth
Sunday. The Crimson showed no signs of being out of sync, as
freshman forward Liza Ryabkina netted a goal midway through the
first period, which was all Harvard needed en route to a 4-0
blanking of the Big Green. Ryabkina added two assists on the
day and was awarded with ECAC Hockey Rookie-of-the-Week
honors. Sophomore goaltender Christina Kessler set a
new team single-season record with her eighth shutout. The
Crimson offense was on the attack throughout the game, posting 43
shots. Dartmouth sophomore netminder Mariel Lacina stopped a
career-high 39 shots suffering the loss.
Both No. 6T/6-ranked St. Lawrence and No. 9/9-ranked Clarkson kept
pace with ECAC Hockey leader Harvard, as they posted weekend sweeps
of Rensselaer and Union. Winners of its last five games, the
Saints posted a 3-0 win over the Engineers and a 7-1 downing of the
Dutchwomen. After failing to convert on all four power-play
opportunities versus the Engineers, St. Lawrence stepped-up its
game the following day and made good on 4 of 6 power-play
chances. One of those goals was scored by junior forward
Carson Duggan, who became the all-time leading goal-scorer in
Saints' history as a result of her weekend efforts.
Not to be outdone, the Golden Knights have won four straight
contests, including two weekend shutouts of Union, 6-0, and
Rensselaer, 3-0. Sophomore forwards Ashleigh Moorehead and
Genevieve Lavoie each scored two goals over the weekend helping
Clarkson improve its league mark to 9-4-1.
Quinnipiac finished its non-conference schedule this season by
hosting a two-game series against 6T/7-ranked Mercyhurst.
Freshman netminder Tia Wishart faced a fleury of Lakers' shots over
the weekend saving 48 and 55 shots on goal in the two losses.
Colgate picked-up three league points over the weekend with a 4-1
win at Yale and a 3-3 overtime tie at Brown. Junior forward
Elin Brown had a hand in each of the Raiders' weekend goals scoring
one goal and adding six assists. Brown was named ECAC Hockey
Player of the Week for her merits.
Cornell and Yale each earned weekend splits in league action last
weekend. The Big Red opened-up their offense Friday in a 5-1
win at Brown putting 42 shots on net. Junior goaltender
Nicole Stock was able to turn back 37 of those, but five different
Cornell players found the back of the net.
The Bulldogs rebounded from their Friday night loss to hold the Big
Red in check, as ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week freshman Jackee
Snikeris earned her fourth shutout of the season, as Yale beat
Cornell 5-0. Sophomore forward Mandi Schwartz assisted on
