NEW WEB SITE LAUNCH DELAY...STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS
ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey and the American
Cancer Society announced today that they have teamed up to help
fight cancer with the creation of Pink At The Rink. This
newly created variation of a traditional Coaches vs. Cancer program
will provide critical outreach, while raising funds in support of
the American Cancer Society's lifesaving cancer research,
education, advocacy, and community service efforts.
The main premise of the program will have ECAC Hockey women's
hockey teams wearing specially designed pink jerseys on consecutive
weekend home series - February 8-9 and February 15-16. These
game-worn jerseys will then be auctioned on-line at a newly created
Web site (www.ecachockeycoachesvscancer.com) that is targeted to be
launched January 22. The game-worn pink jerseys will be
personalized for each institution and showcase ECAC Hockey Coaches
vs. Cancer and ECAC Hockey logo patches.
"All of ECAC Hockey is extremely excited about the inaugural Pink
At The Rink project," remarked ECAC Hockey Commissioner Steve
Hagwell. "With the efforts of our league administrators,
coaches, student-athletes, on-ice officials, and fans alike, we are
confident of the benefits that will result from the program in
supporting a cause that hits to close to home for many of us."
With the aide of MissionFish, a fundraising tool on eBay, the
bidding for all items is slated to begin January 22 and conclude 9
a.m. February 20. A minimum bid of $150 is sought for each
player's jersey, with a "Buy It Now" feature on the Web site that
allows a potential buyer to own the jersey of his/her choice for a
flat price of $250.
Look for opportunities to purchase these jerseys on the arena's
concourse and lobby areas during home games as well. There
will be also be a variety of additional promotions taking place to
help benefit the cause such as, sales of bracelets, 50-50 drawings,
etc...
In addition to the pink jerseys, both men's and women's coaching
staffs will be wearing pink ties and scarves during these two
designated weekends. Each head coach will autograph his/her
game-worn item, which will then be placed on the new web site as
part of the on-line auction process.
"The American Cancer Society is happy to have ECAC Hockey join the
fight against cancer, commented Anthony Marino, Regional Vice
President, American Cancer Society. "The support that our
organization has received from the league, its coaches and players
has been overwhelming around Coaches vs. Cancer. This
supports our efforts throughout the local communities, and for that
we are very thankful."
