Weekly Release: No. 4 St. Lawrence Takes Two ECAC Hockey Contests

ALBANY, N.Y.  --The ECAC Hockey regular season was in full swing last weekend with eleven out of the twelve teams in action.  Play was highlighted by No. 4 St. Lawrence earning two road victories.  Showcasing the nation's top penalty-killing unit, having allowed only one power play goal on 37 chances (97.3%), the Saints handled Quinnipiac 6-1 on Friday and defeated Princeton 3-1 on Saturday.  This week the Saints are on road again as they play a two-game weekend series at Wayne State.   


Colgate dropped a two-game set to No. 3 Mercyhurst last weekend 5-1 on Friday and 6-4 on Saturday.  The Raiders will take this weekend off before opening league play on November 9-10 when it hosts Brown and Yale. 


Rensselaer and Yale each picked-up three points in league standings with a victory and a tie.  The Engineers and the Bulldogs battled to a 1-1 overtime tie on Friday in Troy, NY.  Rensselaer bounced back and stretched their unbeaten game streak to six games the following day by defeating Brown 3-1.  The Engineers will play a non-conference game this weekend, when its hosts Northeastern.


Freshman forward Bray Ketchum picked a good time to score her first collegiate goal. Her power-play tally at 5:10 of the third period broke a 2-2 tie and helped Yale to a 3-2 win over Union Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. The Bulldogs had a 57-7 advantage in shots on goal.  Yale resumes play on Saturday when it takes on Brown on the road.
Union lost two tough games last weekend despite strong goaltending play from junior Lundy Day.  The Dutchwomen fell to Brown 1-0 on Friday and 3-2 to Yale on Saturday.  The Dutchwomen continue their aggressive schedule when they visit Boston University on Saturday afternoon. 


Princeton continued its dominance over Clarkson registering a 3-2 victory on Friday.  The Tigers are 8-0-1 all-time against the Golden Knights. 


Dartmouth faced two Hockey East foes over the weekend and took both of them in overtime.  The Big Green defeated Vermont 4-3 in overtime on Friday and tied Boston University 5-5.
Cornell's overall record fell to 2-2 by dropping a pair of contests to Wayne State last weekend.  They will travel to Niagara in non-conference action this weekend.


After splitting games last weekend, Clarkson completes its six-game road trip this weekend traveling to Maine for a two-game set.  The Golden Knights were defeated by Princeton 3-2 on Friday, but bounced back on Saturday to edge Quinnipiac 3-1.  Clarkson is lead by the scoring power of sophomores Britney Selina 3-7-10 and Genevieve Lavoie 4-6-10.  Clarkson has a 5-2-1 overall record in the young season. 


Quinnipiac will face conference foe No. 7 Harvard, who steps on to the ice for the first time in regular season action in this season.  Harvard will also host Princeton in an ECAC Hockey league-match-up on Saturday. 

Player of the Week honors went to Jenna Cunningham, Dartmouth; Rookie of the Week was Lauren Dahm, Clarkson; and Goaltender of the Week was Lundy Day, Union.
