Weekly Release: RPI Sweeps North Dakota

ALBANY, N.Y.  -- Rensselaer picked up its first win of the season powering past visiting North Dakota 3-1 last Friday  The Engineers recorded 33 shots in the contest and limited their opponents to 23 shots on net.  It was a similar story the following evening as four RPI players tallied multiple points to lead a balanced Engineers attack which resulted in their second straight victory, improving their record to 2-1-0.

Playing on its home ice, Clarkson improved its record to 3-0-1 with a 2-0 shutout victory over Niagara and earned a 2-2 OT tie with the Purple Eagles on Saturday. Freshman goaltender Eve Grandmont-Berube posted 20 saves, including several in the last minute of action leading Clarkson to the shutout victory.  The following night Clarkson had to overcome a some costly penalties, which resulted in a 2-0 deficit to salvage a 2-2 tie against Niagara.

Quinnipiac hosted two Hockey East foes during its opening weekend.  On Friday, Goaltender Jamie Miller recorded 29 saves and Chelsey Jones scored twice in helping the Bobcats win their opener 4-3 over Northeastern.  The following night the Bobcats' rally fell short in falling to Boston College 4-2. 

Union dropped two games over the weekend to Vermont falling to 0-4-0 in the young season.  The Dutchwomen were outshot 35-18 in Friday's contest, as they were blanked by the Catamounts 4-0.  Goaltender Lundy Day making 31 saves for the Dutchwomen on Friday.  On Saturday Union fell 4-1; however freshman Courtney Kerslake scored her first career goal, which was the first of the season for Union. 

In other ECAC Hockey action, Colgate had the ambitious task of taking on two national powers in its opening weekend.  The Raiders came up short in both contests losing to No. 8 Boston College 3-0 and falling to No. 3/4 New Hampshire Sunday by a count of 1-0.  The Raiders' freshman netminder Lisa Plenderleith, recorded 41 saves versus New Hampshire.
