Time to Determine a Champion
ALBANY, N.Y. - Home-ice advantage proved to be just that this past weekend as the top four seeds in the 2008 ECAC Women's Hockey Championship claimed quarterfinals series triumphs to advance to the championship finals, which will be held Saturday-Sunday, March 8-9 at the Bright Hockey Center on the campus of Harvard University. The winner of this weekend's event claims the 2008 ECAC Women's Hockey Championship crown and earns an automatic berth in the 2008 NCAA championship.
Top-seeded Harvard, the nation's No. 1 team; No. 2-seeded St. Lawrence; No. 3-seeded Dartmouth and No. 4-seeded Clarkson each posted best-of-three-games series victories. The Crimson, Saints and Big Green posted two-game sweeps, while the Golden Knights held off visiting Princeton in three games. Harvard defeated No. 8 Cornell; St. Lawrence downed No. 7 Yale; and Dartmouth outlasted No. 6 Colgate.
In semifinals action Saturday, the host Crimson face the Golden Knights at 1 p.m., followed by the Saints versus the Big Green, which is a rematch of the 2007 championship final. Harvard, St. Lawrence and Dartmouth all participated in the 2007 event, which was won by Dartmouth. Clarkson is making its first appearance in the championship finals.
The winners of Saturday's semifinals face off at 2 p.m. Sunday.
All games will be streamed live via B2 Networks. Access to the broadcasts can be gained via the League Web site (http://www.ecachockey.com/).
