League Presence Strong at USA Hockey Holiday Camp

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A total of 10 current and former league standouts are among 56 of the best female hockey players in the United States who will participate at the annual USA Hockey Holiday Camp, set for December 26 - January 1 at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. The training camp serves as a tryout and training session for the U.S. Women's National Team and U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team, both of which participate in world championships in the early part of 2008.

Current league standouts invited to the camp include defensemen Caitlin Cahow of Harvard, Katherine Dineen and Sasha Sherry of Princeton, and Yale's Helen Resor; and forwards Crysti Howser of Yale, Lizzie Keady of Princeton, and Sarah Parsons of Dartmouth.

Former league standouts participating at the camp include goaltender Megan Van Beusekom (Princeton), forward Julie Chu (Harvard) and defenseman Angela Ruggiero (Harvard).

The players will be split into three teams for daily practices and scrimmages. One squad, Team White, will include the 22 players vying for one of 20 spots on the 2008 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team for the first-ever International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's Under-18 Championship, to be held from Jan. 7-12 in Calgary, Alta.

The other two teams, Red and Blue, will include a total of 34 players who will be looking to earn their way onto the U.S. contingent for the 2008 IIHF World Women's Championship, which runs from April 4-12 in Harbin, China.
