Gaudet Leads Clarkson Past Quinnipiac
HAMDEN, CT - Junior Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke,
QUE) scored her team-leading fifth and sixth goals of the season as
the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team returned to its winning
ways with a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac College in ECAC Hockey action
Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights, who entered the weekend ranked 13th in the
country, improved to 5-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECAC Hockey
conference. The Bobcats remained winless in league play at 0-2-1,
and are now 1-3-1 overall. Clarkson will visit Maine for a pair of
games against the Black Bears next weekend.
With a 10-1 lead in shots in the first period, the Golden Knights
dominated play early on and that dominance paid dividends at 13:27
when Gaudet scored her fifth goal of the year, one minute into a
power play, giving Clarkson a 1-0 lead. Senior captain Katie
Morrison (Ridgefield, CT) was awarded the assist.
At 5:01 of the second period, Gaudet scored her
team-high sixth goal of the season, and what proved to be the
game-winner, to give Clarkson a 2-0 lead.
The third period saw the Bobcats mount a comeback with an 11-6
advantage in shots after trailing 20-5 through the first two
frames. Quinnipiac's Brandice Moniz cut the Clarkson lead to one at
with less than seven minutes remaining in the contest, but
sophomore Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT) tallied her second score of
the season at 16:35 to assure the Knights of the victory. Britney
Selina (Thornhill, ONT) and Kimberly McKenney (Smiths Falls, ONT)
each picked up assists on the power-play score.
Clarkson freshman goaltender Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) made
15 saves to improve to 3-0-0 on the season while Jamie Miller made
19 saves for the Bobcats. Clarkson finished with a 26-16 edge in
shots and went 2-for-9 on the power-play, while Quinnipiac was
scoreless in four man-up opportunities.
