Brown Suffers First Loss
TROY, NY -- The Brown women's hockey team (1-1-0, 1-1-0 ECACH)
got its first taste of defeat this season on Saturday, taking a 3-1
loss to Rensselaer (5-1-1, 1-0-1 ECACH) at Houston Field House.
Junior assistant captain Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) made 31
saves in the loss, while sophomore Erin Connors (Newburyport, MA)
scored the Bears' lone goal off an assist from sophomore Andrea
Hunter (Fulton, NY).
RPI jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a power-play 8:13 into the contest,
as sophomore Allysen Weidner lifted the puck into the net off
Stock's shoulder. Connors tied it up just over eight minutes later,
collecting the rebound off a shot by Hunter and stuffing it
home.
However, that would be the last the Bears would see of the back of
the net, as RPI's Allison Wright, who assisted on the first goal,
scored once in the second after stealing a neutral zone pass and
again in the third, this time off of a long pass from teammate
Melissa Boik.
The Engineers' Sonja van der Bliek made 11 saves to pick up the
win.
Next weekend, the Bears will open their home schedule on Saturday
against Yale at 2 p.m., then travel to Storrs for a non-conference
tilt with Connecticut on Sunday at 1 p.m.
