Clarkson Surprised by Robert Morris
Moon Township, PA -- Over the past two years,
the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team outscored Robert Morris
10-1 in three meetings, but the Golden Knights streak against the
Colonials came to an end on Friday night as the Green and Gold were
surprised by Robert Morris 3-1.
The Golden Knights saw their season-opening, four-game unbeaten
streak snapped and fell to 3-1-1 overall. The Colonials earned
their first win of the season on Friday and moved to 1-3-0. The two
teams will play again on Saturday afternoon.
Clarkson started Friday's game as if the results wouldn't be
different from the past three meeting against the Colonials as
Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO) scored her first goal of the season
with just 3:35 expired from the first period. Freshmen Rebecca
Gordon (St. Catharines, ONT) and Caitlin Oleska (Battle Creek, MI)
each picked up assists on the game's opening score.
Though the Knights narrowly out shot Robert Morris in the second
and third periods, Clarkson was unable to score again. However, the
Colonials came through with a score in the second period and two
goals in the third.
Chelsea Walkland scored at 14:11 in the second period to tie the
score, and two goals midway through the third did in the Knights
when Alissa Dorman and Kathryn Traynor each scored their first
goals of the season. The Colonials scored only one goal in the
first three games of the season before tallying three times against
the Knights.
Clarkson out shot Robert Morris, 26-18. Eve Grandmont-Berube
(Drummondville, QUE) stopped 15 shots for the Knights and Brianne
McLaughlin made 25 saves for the Colonials.
