Cornell Dumps Stoney Creek

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Three goals in the final two minutes lifted Cornell to a 4-1 victory over Stoney Creek on Friday night in an exhibition contest at Lynah Rink.

With the contest deadlocked at one late in the third period, Amber Overguard fired home a shot from between the circles that would turn out to be the game-winner. Laura Danforth added an insurance tally just 18 seconds later, and Caeleigh Beerworth (pictured) tacked on the fourth goal of the game a minute later with 36.9 seconds remaining in the contest to provide the final margin.

Stoney Creek's Laura Fortino got the Sabres on the scoreboard first in the second period, scoring with two seconds remaining on a power play just 32 seconds into the second period. The Big Red responded mid-way through the period. On another Stoney Creek power play, Liz Zorn intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and skated in on goal, firing a shot to the left side of the cage to knot the score at one.

Jenny Niesluchowski started in goal for the Big Red, making 12 saves in a scoreless first period. Katie Wilson came on to start the second period and picked up six saves on seven goals. Kayla Strong picked up the win with a scoreless third period, making 11 stops in goal for the Big Red.

Cornell opens the regular season on Saturday, October 20, playing host to Vermont in a 2 p.m. contest at Lynah Rink.
