Union Edged by Dartmouth
SCHENECTADY,NY -- Nicole Ruta helped the Dartmouth Big Green
jump out to a 1-0 first period lead on their way to defeating the
Union College Dutchwomen by a final score of 2-0 Friday night in
ECAC Hockey. The Big Green improve to 8-2-1 overall and 6-2-0 in
ECAC Hockey while the Dutchwomen fall to 1-12-0 overall and 0-5-0
in league play.
The game winning Big Green goal came on the power play at 17:33 of
the first period. Sarah Parsons took a shot that Union netminder
Lundy Day (Calgary,AB) was able to stop. A scramble ensued in front
of the net for the rebound where Ruta was able to poke home the
game winner.
Union would hold the Big Green to only one goal until 18:36 of the
third period when Larissa Roche was able to beat Day on the stick
side for the 2-0 final score.
The Dutchwomen saw their best scoring opportunity during a first
period power play. Jackie Koetteritz (Breckenridge,CT) won a fight
in the corner for the puck and sent a centering pass to a streaking
Brenna Malnar (Soughgate, MI). Malnar was able to get a shot off
that Dartmouth goaltender Mariel Lacina just got a blocker on for
the save. Day kept the Dutchwomen in the game with 28 first period
saves.
Day finished with 52 saves in net for Union while Lacina finished
with 9 saves for Dartmouth.
Union continues ECAC Hockey play Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm as
they play host to #2 nationally ranked Harvard.
