No. 8 Big Green Beats No. 10 Clarkson

HANOVER, NH - Sophomore Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) and freshman Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) provided all the offense Dartmouth would need as the Big Green defeated tenth-ranked Clarkson, 3-1, at Thompson Arena on Saturday evening.

Cunningham led the Big Green with two goals and an assist, while Trunzo added a goal and an assist.

Dartmouth (7-1-1, 5-1-0 ECAC) took the 1-0 lead with 10:54 remaining in the first period on Cunningham's first of the night. Trunzo knocked the puck down with her glove at Clarkson's blue line, which resulted in a 2-on-1 with Cunningham. Trunzo slipped the puck over to Cunningham and she found the back of the net.

Clarkson (10-4-2, 3-3-0 ECAC) would tie the score at 1-1 two minutes later as Melissa Waldie slid the puck underneath the legs of junior goaltender Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) during a scrum infront.

After a scoreless 45 minutes, Dartmouth took the 2-1 lead with 3:10 left on Trunzo's fifth of the season and second in as many nights. Freshman Katie Horner (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) fired a slap shot from the point, which was redirected by Cunningham over to Trunzo who scored on the open net. For Horner, it was her first career point here at Dartmouth.

The Big Green would add an insurance goal with a second left as Cunningham netted her second of the game with the assist going to junior Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.).

With the assist, Kennedy continued her point streak to seven games, while Cunningham scored a pair of goals for the fourth time this season.

Clemis earned her sixth win of the season, pushing aside 27 shots, including 14 in the first period. Lauren Dahm took the loss for the Golden Knights with 22 saves.

The Big Green will be back in action on Tuesday night as old Ivy League rival Harvard comes to Hanover as the No. 5 team in the country for a 7 p.m. face-off at Thompson Arena.
