Two Goals in Final Minutes Send Knights to Second Straight Loss
Potsdam, NY - Playing even with eighth-ranked Dartmouth for the
majority of the game, the Clarkson University Women's
Hockey team fell victim to two goals in the final three
minutes, including one with just a second remaining, as the
Golden Knights dropped a 3-1
decision to the Big Green in ECAC Hockey action on
Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights, ranked 10th in the country, fell to 10-4-2
overall, with their second straight defeat following a seven-game
unbeaten streak, and 3-3 in the conference. Darmouth moved to 7-1-1
overall and 5-1 in the ECAC. Clarkson closes out the first semester
next weekend at Brown and Yale.
Clarkson out shot the Big Green 15-7 in the first period, but it
was Dartmouth that got on the scoreboard first with a goal from
Jenna Cunningham at 9:06. The Knights took little time to respond
as Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) scored her
eighth goal of the season at 11:13 of the period. Sophomore
Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) recorded her
team-high 11th assist and 19th point of the season on the goal, and
freshman Daris Tendler (Verwood, SASK) also picked
up a helper, her fifth of the year.
After a scoreless second period, the game appeared headed for
overtime as neither team could score the game-winner for the first
16 minutes. With just 3:10 remaining, however, the Big Green's
Amanda Truzzo tallied what would prove to be the game-winner with
help from Jenna Cunningham and Katie Horner. While Clarkson tried
to score the equalizer in the final minute, Dartmouth put one more
goal in the net with just one second left as Cunningham picked up
her second goal and third point of the game.
Freshman Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) suffered
her first collegiate loss in net for the Knights, making 22 saves.
Her goals against average for the season still ranks second in the
nation at 0.92 GAA. Carli Clemis made 27 saves for the Big
Green.
Clarkson out shot Dartmouth 28-25 in the contest and neither team
could score on the power play as Clarkson went 0-for-3 and the Big
Green went scoreless in their only chance.
