Knights See Seven-Game Unbeaten Streak End
Cambridge, MA - With two goals in the both the first and second
periods, Harvard University quickly put an end to the Clarkson
University Women's Hockey team's seven-game unbeaten streak with a
5-0 shutout of the Golden Knights in ECAC Hockey action on Friday
night.
The Golden Knights, ranked 10th in the country, dropped to 10-3-2
overall, while fifth-ranked Harvard improved to 5-0-0. Clarkson
will play another tough opponent on Saturday when its faces
Dartmouth.
Though the Knights were narrowly out shot 26-22 and had five
power-play advantages, they were unable to find the back of
the net against the top-rated defensive team in the country.
Harvard out shot Clarkson 9-4 in the first period and two of those
nine shots found the back of the net for the Crimson. Katharine
Chute scored twice in a span of less than five minutes in the
second half of the period for all of the scoring that Harvard would
need. The Crimson then added a pair of goals in the second period
with Sarah Vaillancourt and Sarah Wilson tallying in the first
seven minutes of the frame. A final goal in the waning minutes
of the third from Jenny Brine finished the scoring for the
Crimson.
Eve Grandmont-Berube (Drummondville, QUE) stopped nine shots
through the first half of the game and then Lauren Dahm
(Baldwinsville, NY) came on to make 12 saves in the final 33
minutes. Christina Kessler made 22 saves in the shutout for
Harvard.
Harvard was 2-for-3 on the power play while Clarkson went scoreless
in five chances with the man-advantage.
