Dartmouth Beats Princeton
HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Amy
Cobb (Edina, Minn.) netted two goals and sophomore Jenna
Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) scored the gamewinner with 4:16
remaining in the game as Dartmouth edged Princeton, 4-3, in the
ECAC Hockey opener.
Princeton (1-2-2, 1-2-1 ECAC) scored first on the power play when
Brittany Salmon collected a rebound off of a Sasha Sherry short and
found the back of the net to put the Tigers up 1-0 early in the
first period.
The Big Green (2-0-1, 1-0-0 ECAC) evened the score two minutes
later on Cobb's first of the night on the power play. Cunningham
was behind the net and fed the puck out front and Cobb was there
for the score. Dartmouth went 1-for-7 on the power play, while
Princeton added one man advantage goal in six chances.
Junior Maggie
Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) gave the Big Green its first lead of
the game, 1:38 later with the assist going to Cunningham. Kennedy's
initial shot was stopped by Princeton goaltender Kristen Young, but
Kennedy followed her shot and scored on the rebound.
Princeton, however, would not go away as the Tigers pulled even win
a goal from Sherry. Marykate Oakley fired a shot on net that was
blocked and the puck came out to Sherry and she buried it past
Dartmouth goaltender Carli
Clemis (Taber, Alta.) to tie the score at 2-2.
The Tigers took the lead for the second time on Sonja Novak's first
goal of the season. Novak broke into the Big Green zone and tucked
the puck under Clemis' left arm and into the net for the score.
In the third period, Cobb netted her second of the night with 6:17
remaining to tie the game at 3-3. Sophomore Sarah
Parsons was behind the net and found Cobb in the slot and she
didn't miss the puck as she had her first career two-goal game for
the Big Green.
Two minutes later, Cunningham netted the gamewinner with 4:16 left
in the game. Sophomore Sarah
Toupal (White Bear Lake, Minn.) did a great job on the fore check,
which created a turnover infront of the net that Cunningham
collected in the slot and beat Young to give the Big Green the 4-3
win.
Dartmouth continued to pound out shots on goal with 36, while
Princeton had a total of 15. Clemis made 12 saves between the pipes
and Young kept Princeton in the game with 32 stops of her own.
The Big Green will back in action tomorrow afternoon as Dartmouth
faces Quinnipiac in another key ECAC Hockey contest, beginning at 4
p.m at Thompson Arena.
