Bobcats Lose Heartbreaker
The Northeastern University Huskies beat the Quinnipiac Bobcats in Women's Ice Hockey tonight in Boston, Mass, 3-2. The loss dropped the Bobcats to 1-9-1 on the season, while the win improved the Huskies to 2-9-1. This marked the second time the two teams have met this season with the Bobcats winning the first, 4-3 on October 12.
The Huskies got on the board first when Ali Bielawski beat Jamie Miller (Richmond Hill, Ont.) for her first goal of the season. The Bobcats would not score in the first and trailed 1-0 going into the second period.
Elyse Cole (Belleville, Ont.) would tie the game 1-1 at 8:39 in the second period. The goal would be her team-high fourth of the season. Assisting on the goal for the Bobcats was Antoinette Maldonado (Glenodra, Calif.), her first assist of the season.
It wouldn't take the Huskies too long to regain the lead as Nikki Petrich took a pass from Katy Applin and scored. The goal came at 12:55 of the second and gave Northeastern their second lead of the night, 2-1.
The Bobcats would again trail going into the dressing room at the end of the second period, 2-1
The score would remain the same until late in the third period until Kallie Flor (Farmington, Minn.) tied the game at two on her third goal of the season. Janine Duffy (Toronto, Ont.) added an assist on the goal, giving her points in consecutive games. The goal came at 18:17 of the third.
However, the score would not stay tied for long as the Huskies got what proved to be the game-winner just under a minute later at 19:13 on Petrich's second goal of the night. Assisting on Petrich's second goal was the Huskies' leading scorer, Kristi Kehoe. Petrich finished the night with three points (1-2-1).
This was the second straight one goal loss for the Bobcats who lost 4-3 Saturday night to Cornell.
The Bobcats look to rebound against Cornell in their next game next Friday (11/30) in Ithaca, N.Y. as they travel to take on Cornell. They play the next night at Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y
