Bears Stay Close, But Fall to Dartmouth
PROVIDENCE, RI - In a Friday matinee at the newly reopened
Dunkin Donuts Center in downtown Providence, the Brown women's ice
hockey team (1-5-1, 1-4-1 ECAC Hockey) eventually fell to #8/9
Dartmouth, 2-0. Junior Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) continued
to play exceptionally, stopping 38 shots for her fifth 30+ save
game her last six contests.
The Big Green started the scoring at 15:56 into the first period.
The Bears were on a power play, but Dartmouth sophomore Sarah
Parsons picked off a Brown cross-ice pass in the neutral zone and
skated in on Stock all alone. After a nifty deke to the right, she
went to her backhand, lifting the puck over Stock's right leg and
into the net.
After a scoreless second period that ended with Dartmouth holding a
31-13 shot advantage for the game, the Bears came back in the
third, generating several scoring chances as each team put nine
shots on net. Unfortunately, it was the Big Green who got a goal.
Sophomore Jenna Cunningham, who entered the weekend second in the
country in points per game, skated around the back of the net from
Stock's left. She fired a pass into the slot, where junior Maggie
Kennedy one-timed it past the Brown goalie's glove for the
insurance score with just under three minutes to play.
Dartmouth junior Carli Clemis made 22 stops to pick up the shutout
victory. Neither team was successful on the power play, with
Dartmouth going 0-for-6 and Brown going 0-for-5.
On Saturday, the Bears will travel to Cambridge for a showdown with
#6/7 Harvard at 2 p.m. After playing their first two ranked teams
tough (then-#8 Connecticut in addition to Dartmouth), Brown will
try to get over the hump and pull off the upset.
