Dartmouth Edges Providence

HANOVER, N.H. - Junior Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) scored the game-winner, on the power play, with nine minutes left in the game as Dartmouth held off Providence, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten on the season.

Sophomore Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) helped Dartmouth strike first with her seventh of the season. Cunningham scored 2:18 into the contest with the assist coming from junior Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.).

Providence answered midway through the first as Jean O'Neill found the net with 10:49 left. It was O'Neill's second of the season with the assist credited to Erin Normore. Both teams had a power play opportunity in the first, but both were unsuccessful.

In the second period, the Big Green had a chance to take the lead with a two-man advantage at the 11:15 mark of the period. Dartmouth got three shots on net, but Providence goaltender Danielle Ciarletta made the saves. Ciarletta made 13 stops in the period.

The Big Green was outshot by the Friars in the period 17-13, but junior netminder Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) kept Providence off the board, saving all 17 shots.

Despite getting outshot again in the third period, Dartmouth got a power play goal from Bronson at the nine minute mark with assists coming from Kennedy. Clemis made 14 stops between the pipes to propel the Big Green to the 2-1 win as Providence fired 14 shots on net to only six by Dartmouth.

For Bronson, it was her first of the season and seventh of her career. The Big Green was 1-6 on the power play, while the Friars were 0-4 on the man advantage.

Clemis made a season-high 35 stops, three away from her career-high, to move to 3-0-1 on the season. Ciarletta was equally as good in net with 27 saves.

Dartmouth will be back in action this coming weekend as the Big Green travels back to Providence for an Ivy League showdown with Brown on Friday at 7 p.m. Dartmouth then heads to Yale for a 5 p.m. face-off on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
