Dutchwomen Blanked at Clarkson
POTSDAM, NY -- Freshman Melissa Waldie scored twice to tie for
the team's season goal-scoring lead as the Clarkson University
Women's Hockey team earned a 3-0 ECAC Hockey victory over Union
College Saturday afternoon in front of 287 fans at Clarkson's Cheel
Arena.
The Golden Knights improved to 9-2-1 and 3-1-0 on the ECAC schedule
with their ninth straight win over Union, which fell to 0-11
overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Though the Golden Knights dominated the entire first period, it
wasn't until their 14th shot that the team finally put a goal on
the scoreboard. With less than five minutes remaining in the first
period, Clarkson's offensive barrage was rewarded with a power-play
goal as Waldie converted a pass from Britney Selina.
Including the first goal of the game, Clarkson scored three times
on its next five shots to take a lead it would never relinquish. It
took a few extra seconds to figure out that Clarkson had its second
goal as Waldie rifled a wrist shot towards the goal with less than
two minutes to go. After a review of the play, the officials
concluded that Waldie's shot went over the shoulder of Union
goaltender Danielle Kimble (Reston, VA), giving the Knights a 2-0
lead. Selina picked up another assist on the second goal.
Just 22 seconds later, the Knights completed their three-goal run
when junior Marie-Jo Gaudet tucked the puck between the post and
Kimble's left leg to give Clarkson a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Genevieve
Lavoie took the initial shot before the goal and was awarded the
assist.
Freshman Lauren Dahm, who leads the NCAA in goals against average
at 0.40, was never really tested in making eight saves, improving
to 5-0-0 on the season with her third shutout. Kimble finished with
44 saves for the Dutchwomen.
Clarkson concluded the contest with a 47-8 shot advantage and was
1-for-4 on the power play. Union was held scoreless in its only
man-advantage chance.
Union is off until a November 27th game at Sacred Heart.
