Boxscore

HAMDEN, CT -- The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team lost to Princeton, 6-2, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at the TD Banknorth Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats drop to 3-19-4 overall and 0-11-3 in ECAC Hockey play. Princeton improves to 9-8-4 overall and 7-6-1 in ECAC Hockey action.

Breana Burton (Surrey, B.C.) had a hand in both Quinnipiac goals as she scored the Bobcats' first before picking up an assist on their second. For Princeton, Lizzie Keady had two goals and an assist while Sonja Novak also added two goals. Brittany Salmon added one goal while assisting on two others.

Quinnipiac took the early lead on Burton's second goal in as many games at 2:41. Erica Bolognino (Carrol Stream, Ill.) picked up a loose puck at the blue line and streaked in on net. Her shot was stopped by Princeton goalie Kristen Young whose kick save left Burton with a rebound to slam home.

The Tigers responded at the 8:02 mark when Salmon fed Sasha Sherry at the point. Sherry's slapshot beat Bobcats goalie Jamie Miller (Richmond Hill, Ont.) to knot the score at 1-1. Princeton then took a lead with 1:36 remaining in the first period when Christine Foster fed Annie Greenwood from just outside of the right face-off circle. Greenwood's shot was deflected up in the air by a Quinnipiac defender. Salmon swung at the puck, which was then waist high, and redirected it past Miller to give Princeton a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Princeton took a 3-1 lead just 16 seconds into the second period when Marykate Oakley handled the puck on the right flank and fed Keady out in front of the Bobcats' net. Keady's goal was her sixth of the season while Oakly picked up her team-leading 14th assist of the season.

Keady scored her second goal of the game at the 10:28 mark of the third period on a pass from Salmon. Salmon was fed by Endicott before she found Keady open for the goal. Keady then set up Sonja Novak at the 11:13 mark to give Princeton a 4-1 lead.

Trudy Reyns (Port hope, Ont.) scored her fifth goal of the season at the 13:49 mark. Reyns was set up on the play by Burton and Vicky Graham (Glen Riddle, Pa.).

Trailing 5-2, Princeton increased their lead on Novak's second goal of the game. Novak was fed by Laura Martindale and Caroline Park.

In goal, Miller stopped 30 shots-on-goal while Princeton's Young made 24 saves in net.

The Bobcats return to action on this weekend when they host Union on Friday, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. and Rensselaer on Saturday, Jan. 2 at 4 p.m. at the TD Banknorth Sports Center.
