SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The St. Lawrence Saints scored three times in the first period, including two power-play goals on there way to defeating the Union College Dutchwomen by a final score of 7 - 1. The Saints would go 4-6 on the power-play to improve St. Lawrence to 19-7-0 overall and 11-2-0 in ECAC Hockey action. The loss drops the Dutchwomen to 3-19-2 overall and 0-12-2 in ECAC Hockey action.

The Saints first power-play goal came at 8:12 of the first period. Karell Emard took the puck in the right face off zone and slid the puck to the slot for Britni Smith. Smith then sent the puck over to Courtney Sawchuk who took a hard slap shot from the right face off circle that beat Union netminder Lundy Day (Calgary, AB) through the five-hole. The Saints tacked onto the lead at the 17:22 mark when Carson Duggan took control of a loose puck in the right face off zone, skated into the slot and fired a low wrist shot that beat Day on the glove side. The Saint's third goal, also a power-play goal, came when Brittaney Maschmeyer took a slap shot from the center point that was tipped by forward Tara Akstull in front of the net that found its way past Day.

Suzy Pocock (Sterling Heights, MI) had the best scoring chance for the Dutchwomen in the first period. Midway through the period Courtney Kerslake (Sarnia, ON) gained control of a loose puck at center ice and passed to a streaking Pocock who broke into the Saints zone all alone. However, Saints goalie Maxie Weisz was there to make the save.

The second saw the Saints light the lamp four more times, with two of the goals coming on the power-play. At 5:27 of the second Kerri Wallace sent a screaming slap shot from the slot that deflected off the stick of a Union defender and found its way past Day for the Saints third power-play goal of the game. Duggan would add her second goal of the game at 13:08. Lisa Batchelor would send a pass from the center blue line down to the right face off circle where Allison Domenico would send a one time pass over to the other side of the net to Duggan who had a wide open net to put the puck home. St. Lawrence scored two more times to take a 7-0 lead into the locker room after two periods.

Union's goal came at the 14:13 mark of the third period. Kelly Fleming (Lake Placid, NY) took control of a loose puck at the blue line and sent a pass ahead to Stephanie Gilbert (Salt Lake City, UT) who was able to jam the puck past Weisz for the Dutchwomen's lone goal.

For Union, Day made 22 saves in net and was relieved by Danielle Kimble (Reston, VA) who stopped 15 out of the 16 shots she faced. St. Lawrence goalies Weisz and Megan Gallagher combined to stop 13 of the 14 Dutchwomen shots they faced.

Union takes to the road to continue ECAC Hockey action next week as they travel to Quinnipiac on Friday, February 1st for a 7:00 face-off against the Bobcat's.
